30 May 2012:
More flash photography homework. The goal was to get the flash to stop the action, and to still have a trailing blur. This is as good as it got. Lily was the assistant.
Note that you can see through my head, and the tire is sort of missing!

Sticker Art
28 May 2012:
I saw this sticker yesterday, and walked by it thinking it might have picture possibilities. On our walk down to the pier this afternoon, we passed it again, and it was well lit by the sun. This is the skate board park on Pier Avenue just west of Pacific Coast Highway. Sticker art!

Beach Abstracts
May 20 and 26, 2012:
Here are two more images of 'beach abstracts', a series that I am working on for this year. The top one was taken at Malaga Cove, just at the junction of Palos Verdes and Torrance beach. The lower one was taken today off of the Hermosa Beach Pier. See earlier posts on 4 February, 4 March, 24 March, 29 April, and 5 May.

Rambler
23 May 2012:
More experiments. Set the camera ISO to 6400, just for fun (this is really high, and can create a lot of noise, but it allows low-light photography). We went for a walk tonight after sunset. Found this old Rambler in a neighborhood driveway. It was lit by a street lamp. After some color balancing, it looks like it was lit by the sun at noon. Crazy. Also used Color Effects Pro, old photo filter.

End of the World! (almost)
20 May 2012: We had a solar eclipse across the western U.S. this afternoon. This was the view from our house, out towards the Pacific. There was just enough of a cloud layer that you could directly watch the eclipse (or photograph it) from time to time. The peak of the eclipse was at 18:38 PDT. This was taken at 18:46 PDT. Reported coverage of the sun was about 85% here in the Los Angeles area. The local dogs were nervous.
