Super Blue Blood Moon
31 January 2018:
Here is the super blue blood moon looming over the Hermosa Beach pier. I think this was about 24 minutes after totality, so the sun is just lighting up the left side. There were about 6 or 7 photographers lined up along the shore shooting this great scene. No marine layer of clouds to obscure this view!

Marston House
13 January 2018:
Today we took a guided tour of Marston House. It was built in 1906, and it is a fine example of an early Craftsman home. George Marston, who had this house built for his family, was a department store magnate and a general philanthropist in the San Diego area. The house is located in the extreme northwest corner of Balboa Park. We were the only two people on this particular tour, so we got a lot of attention.
One Marston daughter, Harriet Marston Headley, married Leal Headley, who was a Carleton College alumnus (1907) and later became a professor at Carleton. They lived in an arts-and-crafts style home that overlooks Bell Field on the Carleton campus at 815 East 2nd street, Northfield. Rika runs right by it when she goes for a run in the upper arb. That home was donated to Carleton in 1988. We will look it up when we next visit Rika.
