Blankets

18 September 2016:

A few posts earlier I talked about the Hudson's Bay company store in Montreal. After coming home from the trip we gathered up our two Hudson's Bay point blankets for this portrait shot.

The four-point blanket (top one) is a twin size blanket that probably dates from my initial trip out to California in 1973, and it is likely older than that. The label is missing after much use.

The six-point blanket (bottom one) is a queen size blanket that we use every winter.

Reina and Riki have a new six-point blanket as a present from Ida and Lily.

Are there any other point blankets in the Anderson family?

Hike through Mt. Royal Park, Montreal

10 September 2016:

A story in six pictures: there were taken on a hike up and through Mt. Royal park in Montreal. We hiked up the hill to a viewpoint a few hundred meters above the city (pictures 1 and 2), then we looked out over the city (pictures 3 and 4), then we went back down a different route into a rather eclectic part of the city (picture 5), and we ended up at an excellent Turkish restaurant recommended by Rika (picture 6). Lisa was our principal navigator.

Hudson's Bay Company

9 September 2016:

In the U.S., Hudson's Bay Company stores are small affairs that have high-end outdoor and boutique items. To my surprise, in Canada they are a major high-end retailer! This is their store in Montreal, very close to out hotel. We found a selection of Hudson's Bay blankets hidden away up on the fourth floor. I learned that the famous blankets are actually called point blankets, and the 'points' are the short stripes at the edge that indicate the size of the blanket. Who knew! Now I am going to go home and count the points on each of our two blankets.

Organ Concert, Notre-Dame Basilica, Montreal

8 September 2016:

We walked the older quarter of Montreal today, including a walk-through of the Notre-Dame Basilica. Lily learned that there would be a concert given by the pipe organ in the afternoon, so we returned. Wow! That is a very powerful instrument. It easily filled that large chamber with sound, and was expertly played by their concert master. It was the highlight of the day. I think he played Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor, a favorite of mine. 7000 pipes!
