Secret Stairs Walk #19, Silver Lake Circles

29 March 2015:

This morning we walked in Silver Lake again, this time on some very quiet and elegant streets above Silver Lake Boulevard.

We finished our walk with another trip to Silver Lake Ramen for a bowl of their vegetarian ramen. Good food!

The Adobe

21 March 2015:

This old adobe ruins sits about 0.5 km above Ryan campground. The class gathered there, and the instructor lit it with the help of a few students. I only hit the shutter button.

'Twas a starry night

20 March 2015, about 11:30 pm:

Joshua Tree National Park - A different take on the same tree I photographed in March 2011 using the Hasselblad. This image was made possible by the new lens on a digital SLR.

The kitchen

18 March 2015:
Just making sure that the borrowed 15mm lens does indeed work on the Canon 5D. Personally, I like my stocking feet sticking out at the bottom.

Hermosa Star Trails

14 March 2015:

I was practicing last night for our upcoming trip out to the desert to do a lot of star photography. I think the brightest trail is Jupiter.

Walk #22, Coffee Table Loop

8 March 2015:

This morning we took walk #22, the Coffee Table Loop near the Silver Lake reservoir. The walk was supposed to start at a cafe called The Coffee Table on Rowena, but that has been torn down to make way for some new development. Off we went anyway, and saw a lot of remodeled mansions, big homes, and a stairway with a nice kink in it.

Unsettled Weather

1 March 2015:

The Hasselblad went into the repair store for an overhaul during February. I got it back at the end of the month, and it sounds like a new camera. Very nice! These images are from the first roll through the camera since the overhaul, and were taken on Sunday evening March 1. There were some intense but isolated weather cells sitting off the coast out in the Santa Monica bay, and a few more north of us over Santa Monica city. The Hermosa Beach pier is in the foreground of both images. The top image is my favorite of the evening, with the sun illuminating the clouds from behind. In the lower picture, taken a bit later in the evening, you can just see the remains of a funnel cloud off the end of the pier, at the lower edge of the cloud line. There were two distinct funnels a few minutes earlier, neither reaching the ocean.

We had dinner here last night. Quite good! Organic Mediterranean, I believe, in Redondo Beach.

I experimented a bit while testing the camera intervalometer and battery life for an upcoming star photography trip.
