Lily hiking above Lake George

30 June 2013:
This is a another image from yesterday. Shortly after climbing up this path above Lake George and headed for Barret Lake, my right hiking boot sole parted from the rest of the shoe, and we had to turn around and head back down. As you can see, Lily was enjoying the afternoon.

Selfie #3

30 June 2013:
Tired of my Selfies yet? Today's was taken at Starkweather Lake, which is a really nice alpine lake on the road to Devil's Postpile. It was a great ride up and over Minaret Summit down to the Devil's Postpile and Red's Meadow area, and then back again. The grade back up to the summit is hard. I got in 990 m of climbing over the 2.5 hour ride. The 'new' bike is sure nice to ride.

Lily hiking above Emerald Lake

28 June 2013 #2
This afternoon we hiked up Coldwater Creek, from Lake Mary past Emerald Lake (in the background) and then up to Gentian Meadows. We had a full adventure: hiking at altitude, a gazillion mosquitoes, beautiful scenery, thunder, light rain (right after this photo), and some broken camera gear. It was great!

I think it was Lisa that taught me that term. This selfie (self portrait using a cell phone) was taken this morning back at Minaret Vista.

Off to Mammoth Lakes

27 June 2013:

Departure, late morning:

Lunch in Mojave (it was pretty good!).

After lunch, the air temp was 104 F all the way up the Owens valley. The mini was struggling a bit to make power at that elevation and at those temperatures. I finally turned off the AC on the Sherman Grade between Bishop and Mammoth Lakes (5000 feet to 7000 feet in less than 10 miles), put the Mini in 3rd gear at 5000 rpm, and it felt much better. That was fun! LA to Mammoth on one tank of gas.

Sunset at Minaret Vista near the main ski lodge at Mammoth, elevation about 9200 feet. Quite a show.

Making Plum Wine

23 June 2013:

And we just managed to finish the batch from 7 years ago.

The batch from 2008, still unopened, can be seen in the second photo.

After Sunset

4 June 2013:

This time, I put Kodak Ektar 100 film in the Hasselblad and shot near the Hermosa Beach pier on Tuesday the 4th from a half-hour before until about a half-hour after sunset. I especially like the bicycle. Trying to follow a moving object with the Hasselblad is tricky, both because the image is reversed in the viewing glass and then because it is a single-lens reflex camera.
